Six Japanese Gardens is a piece for solo percussion and electronics commissioned by the Kunitachi College of Music in Japan and written in memory of Toru Takemitsu . The piece is a collection of six impressions based on the Japanese zen gardens Saariaho saw in Kyoto during the summer of 1993.
